On July 2, 2003, the city of Vancouver was awarded the 2010 Winter Olympic Paralympic Games, with a bid that beat out strong comptetin from PyeongChang, South Korea and Salzburg, Austria.  Since then Vancouver has been busy preparing venues and building infrastructure to support the prestigious event, which will be held between February 12 and 28 in 2010 (The 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will take place between March 12 and 21, 2010)

Vancouver will share hosting duties with the city of Whistler, British Columbia, which is also undergoing intense preparations to host the winter sporting community and the international media. New venues, athletes' villages and sporting structures are being constructed at a speedy pace in both cities, as are upgrades to highways, transit, and hotels.
