Local Government
The metropolitan area of Vancouver is made up of 21 municipal bodies whose responsibilities include certain facets of governance including development permits, zoning bylaws and property taxes. Metro Vancouver is the inter-municipal body in charge of administering resources and services common to the member municipalities. Provincial Government
Vancouver is the largest city in the Province of British Columbia and Victoria is the capital city. The provincial government is responsible for property, civil rights, natural resources, the environment, education, health and welfare. Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and Ottawa is the capital city. The federal government is responsible for defence, criminal law, employment insurance, postal service, census, copyrights, trade regulation, external relations, money, banking, transprotation, citizenship and Indian affairs.
